Mobile Phone Directory

I have only just heard about this, it started in mid June --

Maybe you have heard about this, but early next week all UK mobiles

will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to

access the numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done

before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex -

directory. We have all unsubscribed and you may want to suggest it to

all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be

swamped by unsolicited messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the

BBC - see link below.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/8091621.stm <https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/8091621.stm>

The Directory of Mobile Phone numbers goes live next week.

All numbers including those belonging to children will be open to cold

calling and the general abuse that less scrupulous telesales people

subject us too.

To remove your number go here. (You need your mobile phone with you to

do this, they text you a code)

www.118800.co.uk
<https://www.118800.co.uk/>

select the ex-directory hyperlink at the upper right corner of the page

and follow the instructions, or you could click on the link below:

https://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html <https://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html>

When on the site, click "Home" then "Ex-directory" this will remove you

from the directory.

Thanks Bren. Frightened the life out of me when the text went on my phone, didn't expect it to be that quick:rolleyes:

thanks bren.
dont want too many women phoning me.:D
just dreaming

Hi Winston,

I agree - they only want you for your money:)

Seriously though, even forgetting the directory, the only way
to ensure you don't get snooped is to use unregistered pay
and go phones.

Kind regards

Dave

Very many thanks Bren, I have passed the infomation on to everyone I know who have children likely to own a mobile phone. The thought of what could happen is enough to make your blood run cold! It only takes seconds to do - it took me longer to find out what my number was! Thanks again. Geofred

Just been on the site, it's convieniently out of service at the moment, (I wonder why)

It's probably because people are now finding this out and rushing to get it done and their site can't handle the traffic -- or is it-- wouldn't put anything past them

Thanks for the tip off Bren, new to me, never heard of this before. Just another money making scam at others expense and inconvenience. I keep getting people phoning me up in the middle of the night offering me great mobile phone deals already, it is obviously day time where they are phoning from, I sure don't need any more! I am very greatful for your information.

Thank you Bren. I have just informed our family of this .No one had heard about it and thought it a bit of a cheek. They will all opt out when the site is back on line.
I wonder how long it is before it is hacked and hit by viruses. The quicker the better.
I am afraid I am no longer polite to cold callers. If the person at the the other end dont like it then Tough. They should get themselves a less antisocial occupation or a thicker skin.

Thanks for the link Bren, I managed to get my daughters and husbands off the directory, but not mine, I don't know why, I will try again when its up and running again.

Hi Florence

I can’t see anywhere were it says you have to pay to opt out! unless I have missed something.
Perhaps you could point it out on the page because I have read it twice and the only charge I can see is for £1.00 for using the service when it’s up and running.

Hi Premo....Oops, was given the wrong info  To opt out by texting E 118 800 you are just charged at the usual rate for a text message.

Florence :)
