I often visited MAC when I lived in Brum, but only for a slice of cake and a cup of tea during a walk around Cannon Hill park. Hence the location of the thread among Parks & Recreation grounds, I was wondering if there were members who got much more from this place than I did.

I enrolled in 3 courses in the 70's, Art History. Life Drawing and Water colour painting, forget whether I paid or they were free, probably paid. I enjoyed every one. eric

Great place!
Loved the MAC, worked there occasionally, went to some of the classes and workshops and enjoyed watching the more unusual films at their cinema.
They used to have some great craft fairs where you could buy lovely work direct from the makers

I well remember John & Mollie English as they were instrumental in helping to build Highbury Little Theatre just round the corner from us. Both my children went to the playgroup at Orchard House which is behind the theatre.
We're still members of the theatre and go as often as we can. The MAC is across town for us so we don't go that often. We did have tickets recently but the show was cancelled due to the emergency. Last time we went it was to pay a visit to the cafe while Graham was doing the sponsored walk for prostate cancer.
Just remembered - we went to see the film Mr Turner there and part way through we heard a very strange noise. It took a while to realise that a certain person had gone to sleep and was snoring gently!

I have used to MAC for conferencing, training, attended events, did a pottery course, and just to meet friends for coffee and a chat in the café.

I was reading of the truly generous donations given by local industry when the MAC was first built, contributors included Lucas, Dunlop, Boxfolia and Jack Cotton.

I played bass in a rock and blues band in the early 1970s. We used to practice at MAC, sometime into the early hours!
