Magnum Hotel Union Passage

Walkscrow

knowlegable brummie
I worked at the Magnum first as a hallporter then night porter then banqueting porter in the mid to late 70s.
It changed hands a number of time becoming the Center hotel then comfort.
Anyone remember it?
It was a department store (Grays I think) before it became a hotel.

The Magnum hotel ,off New St, was a department store...not Greys which was in Bull St, but Marshall and Snellgroves, high end store....had various names ..Britania Hotel ......cheap & cheerful for city centre....very near New St station....I was black cab driver from 1974 ....nightmare to pick up from....people had always walked from reception to New St and then hailed first black they saw, thinking it was there cab...cab driver was delighted for such a small job as he was heading for a long wait at back of rank on The Gardens rank
