Angela,

I am a Group Scout Leader at the Scout Hut on Kendrick Avenue, this was right opposite your School.I am doing a project on the Yorks Wood Scout Campsite that closed down in 1972. Do you have memries of the camp-site at all. One of my friends used to go to that school her name was Valarie Summers back then.

re: Long Meadow Girls School

Hi everyone I have just joined the "Club" and have been looking thru the threads. I came upon this one and had to post.. I was working on the milk and used to deliver to the girls school in Long Meadow in 1966/67. There were a couple of girls who used to help me deliver the milk on a Friday when the "roundsman was collecting the money and I was ahead delivering. They used to help me in their dinner hour and I ended up going out with one and my mate went out with her mate.. But It didn't last long as we had to walk from the "Radleys" over to Shard End every night. And had to go through Lea Village after dark, Ha Ha.. While I was delivering around that area we used to have a young lad who used to help us we called them "Runners". One day he told us he knew this lad who was selling a tent (We were keen campers in them days) mind you I still am but now have a VW type 2 camper-van ..I digress. So we bought this tent off this lad, very cheap. We never bothered opening it and we opened it when we went camping down St Ives in Cornwall. Well it was a big heavy canvas tent and on the sides it had written on it, "Yorks Wood Scout Group". Well we never had that tent very long. Ha Ha ....

Hi Janet
I'm sorry but your name doesn't ring any bells and like you someone has to jog my memory nowadays. Lorrainne Goode yes she lived in the corner on the left, I'm afraid I can't remember the others, maybe you remember, Marrianne Creed she lived next door but one to her, down by me was Kathy Stroud, maybe Pamela Smith? or Pauline Cowley ( I have emailed her some years ago but have lost touch now)my old next door neighbour anyway would love to hear from you again, take care

My sister and I both went to Longmeadow Girls School. I didn't start until 1961 but she is 4 years older than me and was there between 1957-1962 (I think). Her name then was Pat (Patricia) Hughes, her friends were Beverley and Eileen, sorry dont know any surnames.

My sister and I also went to Longmeadow in the early 60s (Hazel and Sheila Smith) and I remember all of the names mentioned; Miss Featherstone, Mrs Young etc. Mrs Robertson (the dragon maths teacher who absolutely hated being called Mrs Robinson!) was my form teacher one year. I can remember being caught bouncing on the trampoline in the sports hall one lunch time by the PE teacher, Miss Parish (I think that was her name). And being caught smoking in the toilets. Can't remember what the punishments were for these misdemeanors!

Hi, I've just logged on after many months away, sob! and was interested in your list, I have one for you, LONGMEADOW SECONDRY MODERN SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
that was its full title, its now a new housing estate, I dont have a badge, but i do have photos of it somewhere in my house ha!

Hi Jen

Re, Longmeadow Girls Secondary School. When the school closed down the Headmistress gave the school photographs to Shard End Library. They are in the Local History folders and if you go into the Library they will get them out of the cupboard for you to view. The nearby boys school and the girls school did school concerts and on some of the photographs is 'Benny' from Crossroads when he was a boy.

Junie.

Yes I was also at Longmeadow - I was a first year the year it opened. I remember Miss Featherstone and because the school was new and mainly painted pale pink, she had chalk lines on the floor a foot away from the walls to stop us from dirtying the walls. I seem to remember it worked. I remember Mrs Clarke, Mrs Pearson when I was in 2nd year she was my form mistress and Mrs Fuller in the third year. I remember Mrs Davies, History and Mrs Robinson, Maths (I really didn't like her). My maiden name was Christine Bryant and I was terribly quiet and shy. I was saddened to learn that it had closed down.
