Logging in, logging off

I've seen that error message and can actually make it appear anytime. It is the https/https thing.
On my devices it seems to happen only with Chrome and I avoid it by logging in on the https connection and then opening the https connection which I only use because some internal forum image links don't show without it.
If I use the Edge browser I don't have the problem, and on my devices Edge now looks so much like Chrome I sometimes have to look twice to see which browser I'm using.
ps, when I run Chrome on my iPad the above mentioned error does not happen, so must be a Chrome/Windows problem !

I had that problem for ages, but like mikejee I wasn't that bothered about it. Then one day I thought I would have a go at trying to fix it, I use Chrome by the way. What I did was, I used Ccleaner to clear all cookies then uninstalled chrome and re-installed it. No problems since. Just remember to save all your bookmarks if you go that route.

I use Windows 10, and mostly Chrome with adblock. To see if it is a Chrome settings problem you could try temporarily using IE even if it is only for viewing the BHF. To stay logged-in, browsers have to get and retain a cookie named 'xf-user'. Often clearing the Chrome cache solves a lot of problems.

Why is that on my networked office desk computer, I can stay logged in, but suddenly on my tablet, even though I tick stay logged in, I am having to log in every time I go online to BHF

I dont close it. Leave browser open. go into site, same as I have done for years.
You need to test by a process of elimination, is it your Chrome browser or is it Windows?
I would do the following

Open IE and log-in to the BHF.
With IE running, open Chrome to look at the internet in general and you could also log-in to the BHF if you want to.
You now have two browsers running simultaneously, but for time being only use IE for actions on the BHF.
Both the browsers will show active on the task bar.

If you get unwanted log-outs when using IE then it could be a possible Windows settings problem
If you do not get log-outs with IE then it could be a Chrome settings problem and that can be sorted out.
For info ....
In 2016 I bought a new desktop computer and had continual random restarts. Was it Windows 10 or the computer or what?
By a process of elimination I solved the problem, and if you want to, you can read about it here.

Good advice Old mohawk. Looks like problem lay with Crome, wasnt being updated. Latest version now and all seems ok but crossing my fingers.

Hopefully it will be ok but one never knows with computing !
My version of Chrome is 64.0.3282.140 (Official Build) (64-bit)
It might be worth checking what is being cleared when you close Chrome.
Settings (three dots top right)

Clear browsing data
Select Advanced in the menu which appears

With mine I only clear 'cached images and files' ... I leave all the cookies.
