Lister Truck

There is an ex-Corporation Transport Lister depot sweeper preserved in Aston Manor Transport museum. https://www.amrtm.org/lister.htm

I remember the trucks running round the Metro Cammell works at Washwood Heath when I worked there in the late 60s.

They had at least 1 of these trucks at Turner Brothers in Cliveland street, It had'nt got any form of seating and was driven from the standing position.

Birmingham City Transport had a Lister truck at Liverpool Street Garage (now WM Birmingham Central). It permanently carried a bank of batteries on the back for starting buses with flat batteries of a mornng. Lasting up until 1990 sadly it was scrapped after a shedman accidently drove it down an inspection pit (he jumped off it so escaped injury).

We had them at the BSA and the lifts were made to fit them, In those days ( Mid 50s ) petrol fumes in the factory did not seem to matter.

When i was 15 the Company i worked for had a contract at Lister Trucks. They were situated at Dursley in Glocs. We were there for around 3-4 Months. Sure was an eye opener for a 15 year old.

I used to drive one of these, plus snowplough and mercury trucks when I was at Birmetals, woodgate in the mid-sixties, smelly things, but fun in the snow.

I saw these everywhere when I was a lad in Aston.

They were running around Ashford St, Bracebridge St

They had one at Millers, Norton, Lilly's Packing Factory they seemed to be everywhere. I had many a ride on them.:)
