Lane Newsagent

Does anyone recall a little newsagents in Potters Lane, Aston, just up from the Bartons Arms. We used to have our Mail delivered every night but for some reason I was always sent to Lanes for the News of the World on Sunday mornings. It seemed a very dark shop and Mrs
Lane seemed very old to me then.

In the course of family research I found my g.g. grandmother Ann Yates b.1801 on the 1861 census listed as a newsagent at 18 York Street, St.Mary's District, and an Elizabeth Lane was listed as a lodger and James Lane age 9 months as nephew.

On the 1881 census I found a Lane family at 158 Phillips Street, and living there was William Yates father-in-law. I am sure there must be a family connection and thats the reason for using the shop in Potters Lane.
