Phil, on the photo, I notice it's called the Essoldo, when was this taken do you know, and how long was it called the Essoldo for?
Actually in some ways Kings Heath is on the up and it's quite expensive to buy a house there and in addition to this there seems more and more going on..Of the three cinemas nearest to where I lived, (the others being The Maypole and The Tudor), the Kingsway was that little bit posher.
It's sad to see how the place became derelict, Kings Heath looks a bit ropey too.
Shame.
Hi Maurice,Hi Brumgum,
I'm trying to work out where on earth "Kings Heath Village Square" can be. Google Maps doesn't know either.

Ytube video here Maurice, it's very successful. I love Kings Heath to be honest, quite an eclectic mix of people about and very lively..OK, thanks Brumgum, I wondered where it could be. Must have a look on Google Street View then
EDIT: I see where you mean now - they've altered the angle at which Vicarage Road enters the High Street. Makes sense (for a change!).

Opposite is the Hedges building which was once a Pharmacy, It's an Adams Here but is something else now and i can't recall what..Thanks for those, Brumgum. I left Kings Heath in 1960 having spent about ten years living in Albert Road. I seem to recollect that Wrensons was more or less opposite the Village Square, but my memory may be faltering! It seems to have fared considerably better than the Balsall Heath end of Moseley Road did!

Moseley is also slightly on the up with a very popular Monthly Farmers Market and new independent coffee shops etc..
