It looks like a statue of John Bright, currently in storage, may be making a return to the city centre.

This is in the Birmingham Post.

Conservation contractor in Birmingham statues deal

May 19 2009 by Graeme Brown, Birmingham Post

A Midland conservation contractor is looking forward to a brighter future after landing deals to restore some of Birmingham’s most historic statues.
Eura Conservation has carried out refurbishment work for Buckingham Palace, the Albert Memorial, Oxford’s famous Bodleian Library and iron conservation work on Brunel’s historic liner, the SS Great Britain.

Now, the Telford company is helping to refurbish the statue of renowned Victorian MP John Bright.

Work is currently taking place to refurbish the John Bright statue, which has been in storage in the city’s collection of artefacts, and was sculpted by Albert Bruce Joy and originally erected in John Bright Street in 1888.

Thanks for that felttip, it's another bit of good news for the city. These statues of the city fathers should be proudly on show.

The statue of John Bright will be placed in the Edwardian Tea Room when it's conservation has been completed by Eura.

The statue has never been outside and it was always intended to be displayed indoors.

Pro Civitate thank you once again for sharing this wonderful and interesting information with us!
