Hi all
I'm researching 'sweetheart brooches' - copies of military insignia made into brooches and given to family members particularly during the two world wars. I know many were made in Birmingham and I'm looking at the archives in the museum and library but the names of small family businesses that I believe often traded from home have often been lost. I wonder if anyone knows anything that could help? Also if you had family members who gave or owned one of the brooches I would love to hear from you. Thanks. I'm posting a photo of a typical example. Nell.

Hi Nell, I did some research on the same subject, for my late Uncle, It is in a Word doc, but I will break it down for you..
This is the pendant Good Luck..Swastika pics.JPG

I believe it was made by A.J.S .... Arthur Johnson Smith, Variety Works, Frederick Street, Birmingham and I think the hallmark is 1910.
This was some other info I found associated with A.J.S Good Luck..Swastika info.JPG

Hi Lindyloo

Thanks very much for the information and photos. I haven't got an image of like this one so that's particularly interesting and so is the info about the company that made it. I'm not sure why my photo isn't there - will try again!

Thanks again for your help, Nell
