Hugh Williams, chemist

angelab

knowlegable brummie
Hi there,

I have a Hugh Williams in the 1891 census, listed as "retired chemist" aged 40 (seems young to retire). He is living at 80 Balsall Heath Road. (Place of birth: Holywell, Flintshire, N Wales).

I haven't been able to pin him down in the 1881 census.
So I just wondered if he appeared in the Birmingham directory as a chemist, prior to 1891.

Many thanks in advance
Angela

hi angela, in 1881 he is a lodger living 146 bradford st. bham.

hugh williams unmarried lodger 30 chemist b. holywell, flintshire

and in 1871 he is living in chester, cheshire

mary jones grindley head unmarried 45 annuitant house keeper at mr. grindleys chemist b. cheshire
thomas williams assistant unmarried 24 chemist assistant b. lancashire
hugh williams assistant unmarried 21 chemist assistant b. flintshire

Maybe he didn't have his own business, then.
I see he was a "lodger" in 1881, so not living over the shop.

Thanks so much for checking.

Angela
