hoggle my hedgehog

dereklcg

master brummie
not you average pet i know but such is life.
just had to be different, a lady at our local hospital
works for swan rescue, but it does,nt stop there she
never knows what will turn up,so hence the hedgehog,
she ask,d if i fancied giving it a home why not i,ve got
a big garden they sleep all day and great i thought.
i built it a house and a wild area branches off the tree,s
they like to dig and forage, loved it he used to come out at
about nine i,d put a tray of cat food down for him and a digestive
biscuit,he ate that and spent all night up down round and round
the garden, we,re lucky that our garden is well lit ,so i could watch
him fascinating.
then sadly the end on last summer he dug himself out
under the fence,he kept coming back to eat then it got less
he came one night and i blocked the hole up he had his food
then wanted to go,he went bonkers he tried to climb our
6ft fence! they can do that by the way,so i went out
to him daft it sounds i know, and said to him come on
hoggle i know you want to go he followed me up the
garden i stood back and he was gone,he did come back
spent a few hours then away, and then as far as
know he has,nt been back i did leave food out but
it was,nt eaten,i have seen a hedgehog at the back
of us in a garden  sadly he found somewhere
better or a mate.
bet you think i,m radio rental? but you had to see it
to believe it i almost used to feed him from my hand.:(
happy days regards dereklcg..

I have always been fascinated by Hedgehogs. Derek, you treated your visitor so very well and let's hope Hoggle found somewhere else to live where he received special attention like you gave to him. Thanks for posting your story.

This am I strolled down with the rubbish to the bin at the end of the back garden. There was the scent of skunk in the air. Last Spring we had a family of skunks living in one of the drainage pipes that are under the exits into the laneway area. They stayed only a few weeks and then vanished probably into one of the many deep gulleys around our area. Looks like they are back this Spring. I haven't seen them yet but my daughter saw one on our front lawn last week. Of course, you have to be very careful with skunks for obvious reasons

The babies are lovely little things.

Aaaarh..he's lovely. We have a badger that visits us every night for his supper - a peanut butter sandwich plus grapes or half an apple. Stops him digging our lawn up in search of worms (well, it sometimes works!)
