we are now using a backup solution

Hi can some kind person colourise this please of my grandad 4th from left top row please

Although I've put many colourised photos on the forum there are some which perhaps should not be colourised and this might be one of them. The image appears to be a photo of a photo and the camera was not perpendicular and off centre. This causes a 'slant' effect - the right side is leaning and smaller. I've used my computer to partially correct the perspective and removed scratches ready for colourising, but had a 'mix-up' with colour masks so need start again.

I could put the image on a white background with a title and date.

Also there are websites with Apps' which automatically colour pics ... there are examples on the forum. They are not perfect put pretty good.

You are spot on , this is a photo of a photo and even your version is better than mine so thankyou so so much for this and the advice .

It would be interesting to see what the 'My Heritage' app would do with this pic

I had a go with GIMP and colour does bring out some strange things ... see the Mrs Thatcher lookalike in the centre of Brum in 1945 !

This was done with the MyHeritage app; I think the GIMP version is better but I've never fathomed out how to use it to colourise pics!

It seems that the MH app is set to do faces and does better on them with more variation. It has ignored the adverts etc.
Gimp can vary faces but is very time consuming.

Well what can I say this is stunning , and looks way more realistic than the original black and white version of mine , thanks for taking the time to do this for me.
It looks great, my personal opinion is the black and white one holds more character in these men's faces when it was taken. It Looks like the cap badge is a Warwickshire regiment. do you know what this battalion this was?

MyHeritage is good at faces, but turns most army uniforms a shade of blue. It did a good job on my grandad's face. The original was taken during WW1 and in sepia
