Harris family

central

proper brummie kid
Hi.
Can anyone shed some light on the Harris family in Aston they were all christened at either Saint Martins or Saint Philips. e.g Joseph Harris c.1719.
I know he married Jane Holtham but I would like to know if he had any brothers or sisters? Any help or ANY HARRIS family from this area would be great.
Many thanks
Nick

Thanks. Will look into it.

My grandparents were Harris. I have just started to trace them but Harris is a common name.
I'm starting off in 1898 with my Great grandparents marriage cert (Christ Church, Sparkbrook) which will hopefully give me more info. I think my 2x Great Grandfather was Henry Harris born abt 1835 but need to confirm this.
My great Grandfather was John Harris born 1874 and married to Emily Keight in Christ Church Sparkbrook in 14th April 1898, his father was Henry Harris born abt 1835, I don't know his wife's name. Reasonable assumptions can be made from Census but I don't like to assume anything and would like to trace them with certainty.

Hi Maris

I believe that Henry Harris was married to Charlotte Hinston on 30th Dec 1855 in Aston Juxta.

In 1891 census Henry was a Goods Guard from Hertfordshire born abt 1836, Charlotte, his wife, was born abt 1831. Their children at the time were Charlotte born 1866 and john born 1874.

Also as you are said above John Harris married Emily Keight 14th April 1898. (Marriage, ASTON, Warwickshire, April -June 1898, Vol 6d p 687)
His father was Henry Harris and hers was John Keight.

Emily Keight b.1876 Aston Warwickshire, july-sept Vol 6d p311
She was christened on the 31st August 1876 at St Andrew, Bordesley, Warwickshire.
Her parents were John Keight and Lydia.

In 1881 she was still at home with her parents at 46 Gt Barr Street, ASton. Strangley enough just down the road at the back on 95 (I think) were a Harris family.
1881 census:
Keight John Head M 34 1847 Coal Carter B'ham
Keight Lydia Wife F 26 1855 Aston, B'Ham
Keight Emily Daughter F 4 1877 Aston
Keight John Son M 2 1879 Aston
Keight Annie Daughter F 0 1881 Aston

In 1901 John and Emily were living at 71 Bordelsey Green, Aston, Warwickshire

Harris John Head M 27 1874 Railway Shunter
Harris Emily Wife F 24 1877
Harris John H son M 2 1899
Harris Alfred son M 1 1900

1911 census lived at 18 Raymond Road, Saltley, B/Ham

Harris John Head M 37 1874 Railway Guard B/'ham
Harris Emily Wife F 33 1878 B/Ham
Harris John Henry son M 13 1898
Harris Alfred son M 11 1900
Harris Ernest son M 9 1902
Harris Lydia Daughter F 7 1904
Harris May Daughter F 5 1906
Harris Cyril son M 2 1909

I can't find the last two but the rest were christened at St James, Ashted, Birmingham

John Henry Harris born 20th June 1898 Christened 10th July 1898
Alford (Alfred) Harris born 20th Feb 1900 Christened 14th March 1900
Ernest Harris born 28th Jan 1902 Christened 16th Feb 1902
Lydia Harris born 24th March 1904 Christened 17th April 1904

Hope this helps in any way. Sorry it's not much.
Nick

Hi Maris

Forgot to say that also found
Henry JOHN Harris b 9th Sept 1874 to a Henry Harris and Elizabeth. Christened 15th Nov 1874 in Aston. Could this be the JOHN?

Hi Maris
Looking at the data it doesn't make sense if in 1881 he was married to an Elizabeth as the children in the census were born after the marriage date I suggested to Charlotte. Unless her middle name was Elizabeth! This could be true but would need more researching as Charlottes and Elizabeths are roughly the same age in the census results and both older than him!

Hi Maris
I don't think he was married twice as in 1871 census for the same address as 1881, 291 Watery Lane, Bordesley, Aston Henry was married to Charlotte.

1871
Henry Harris 37 Railway Guard Herefordshire
Charlotte Harris 40 Yardley

Henry Harris 13 Messenger Birmingham
Charles Harris 12 Messenger B/ham
Alfred Harris 9
Ellen Harris 7
Charlotte Harris 4
Annie M Harris 2
Jane Harris 2 months

So Charlotte and Elizabeth are the same person.......

Nick
