Hello everyone,

I am originally from Scotland and I am trying to trace the address of William Greenshields who was a carriage maker. He came to Birmingham from Scotland in the late 1850s, early 1860s, probably to work in the railways.
He married a Birmingham girl on 28 September 1863 in the church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Aston. Her name was Eleanor Riddell (or Riddle). I have the marriage certificate which, unfortunately, only shows that both lived in Nechells, Birmingham. Any ideas as to how I can find the addresses of each so that I can check census records. Grateful for any help or advice.

Roy Greenshields, now of Droitwich.

Hello Roy

I found the following for 1871 Census in Scotland

5 Petershill Road, Springburn, Lanarkshire

William Greenshields born Hamilton 1835 - carriage builder

Eleanor Greenshields - wife - born England - no children listed

Is that your man? Can't yet find her with maiden name in Birmingham on 1861

Fathers names?

Hello & welcome Roy, :)

The marriage cert 28th Sept 1863 gives Fathers names/occupations,
These would assist locating Eleanor Riddel (Helen?, Ellen) Riddal/Riddle etc
on 1861 census,their ages, William & Eleanor ?
St P & P is Aston Manor, So Aston, B,ham inputs to census,
Ok & best regards John Y

Thanks so much to Steve C, John Young and Alberta for your information. Now traced William and Eleanor to their final resting place in Barrow in Furnace. William died in 1909 aged 74 and Eleanor in 1929 aged 90.
