Much of the Air Raid Precaution and post-raid Damage Control was dealt with at the Civil Defence regional headquarters at 156 Great Charles Street, and my father worked there during part at least of the war. Their job apparently was to advise ARP wardens of approaching aircraft by close location, and the fire and rescue services similarly after a raid.
As the war drew to its close, the department was wound down towards closure, and here are some of my late father's mementoes of the offices.
The two photographs were accompanied by the 'With compliments of Major Dennison' slip (He was the owner of the Dennison Watch Case Co., of Villa Road - the factory has only in recent years been demolished) and the letters refer to the coming 'redundancy' and a letter of appreciation of service from the Regional Commissioner.
