Great British Railways

The announcement of the Williams-Shapps Report (May 2021) probably will result in the greatest shake up of the train services in Great Britain with Great British Railways in charge of regional groups of railways.

The time scale over the next 2 years may reveal what will actually happen.

Instead of Network Rail, West Midlands Railways etc owning stations, it may be Great British Rail, assuming the bill goes through. But there will still be HS2. It is complex mix to be sorted out.

To complicate matters even further, there has been mention of the Northern Hub. where transport in the North will be improved. We now have a group called the Midland Engine that looks after the East & West Midlands business and transport needs. One of their projects will be to sort out the fate of Radcliffe Power Station, a coal fired power station, due to close in 2025.
