Johnny, I went back to Brylcreem after about 55 years! I a black tube in the US made by Combe available on Amazon! You folk are now digging deep and bringing back memories. Dinnefords, Beecham's pills, Gripe water. What about Fennings fever Cure, Yak!!!
Being in the RAF I was a true Brylcreem boy, and still am. Though very little hair now, if I don't use it I look as though I'm taking off. Now in a red plastic container and has become more difficult to get. Now made by Unilever
true all the old stuff has gone now, look at kaolin and morphine brill stuff back then.Far more important Pete, the original proper liquid stuff contained morphine (or perhaps very originally it was opium). I gather much more dilute now, but it certainly helped settle my stomach 50myears ago
Mike, I think our stomachs were a little tougher 50 years ago but as long as it works!Far more important Pete, the original proper liquid stuff contained morphine (or perhaps very originally it was opium). I gather much more dilute now, but it certainly helped settle my stomach 50myears ago
Phew!Just to clear up things, I see I wrote that my problem was "50myears ago". I can assure you I might be ancient, but not by 50 million years
The best part of 50 years ago I was in digs in London. After a while I had a tummy upset and the doctor prescribed such a mixture. My landlady said she would put the bottle in her kitchen cupboard, "so it would be handy for meal times".true all the old stuff has gone now, look at kaolin and morphine brill stuff back then.
I still say that today. Trouble is I need ten of them at a time these daysI remember dad used to say to anyone feeling under the weather "You need a foo foo pill."
I looked it up .
Interesting,in the Royal Marines foo foo was bootneck slang for foot powder.I remember dad used to say to anyone feeling under the weather "You need a foo foo pill."
I looked it up .
Famel pastilles always used to work for me .... I suppose it was the Creosote in them!Anyone remember “Famel,” cough syrup, best thing ever for bronchitis or chesty coughs. it was removed from production by the EU, because it contained a coal tar based ingredient.
I've got this tin which once contained Famel Pastilles, have not seen any for ages so I think they have faded away. The pic shows that one of the ingredients was Creosote ! I'm not sure, but I think Creosote has faded away.
