Does anyone know what a florentine button is? Is it the finish of the button or a process of making them?

I have a Joseph Fulford working as a Tool Maker for what looks like Hountins Buttons. He was living back of Summer Lane I wonder where Houtins was. I think I have the right spelling as it was difficult to read.

Re: Houtins Buttons 1851

From the 1848 directory It may have been
Houghton George button and trimming warehouse , mercer, hosier, 74 High St

Re: Houtins Buttons 1851

Oh yes thanks Nick that could be it. I had great problems reading the name. I will change the thread title and hopefully someone may find where Florentine's was.

From Colin's post it may be that florentine is a type of button rather than a firm. i have checked the 1849 & 1855 directories, and no firm called Florentine is listed and the only button makers very close on the lane were pearl button makers

I Found this woman living at 328 Summer Lane not far from your man.

Ann HETHRINGTON Wife M 28 F Florentine Button Coverer.

As people didn't seem to travel far to work, I wonder if she worked at the same place
