Evington Terrace, Hay Mills

Where was Evington Terrace, in relation to Berkeley Road, Hay Mills?

Nowadays, Berkeley Road East splits to the right after leaving the Coventry Road and Berkeley Road continues on the the left of the split. Where was Evington Terrace?

On the 1960 and 1963 Electoral rolls, Evington Terrace houses are numbered from number 1 to 36 and Berkeley Road go from number 35 to 57. Did this road get re-named to Berkeley Road East?

Are there any old street maps available on-line?

Berkely road and berkely road east have always been the same as now. No renaming, as can be seen from the attached map c1903. In 1920 the online electoral rolls do not list any occupants in berkeley road, only berkeley road east, of which there are quite a number. Evington terrace appears in 1925 (nos 1 – 3) and is still shown in berkeley road in 1950, The terrace is between nos 36 and 41. In 1925 many of the earlier houses were also listed as terraces , but in all but Evington, this was dropped , giving the houses normal consecutive numbers . don’t know why they were different.

Thanks for the old map and the information I was seeking. I could not have asked for such a speedy reply.

When you turn into Berkley Rd off the Coventry Rd and Berkeley Rd East goes off to right there is if you go straight on a road called Shipway Rd with a few terrace type houses & at the end is a mansion type house which was occupied by the fair ground operator Bob Wilson, some showmen wintered in their Caravans in the grounds. Len.

Does anyone have a picture of the Salvation Army hall that was once in Shipway Road?

My Great Grandfather Richard Waite was living at 40 Berkeley Road in 1906, He committed suicide in an outhouse behind the house, He hung himself.
