Wrote this in 2000 (don't know where it came from)

"Who are you?" I plead in dark of night
"I am" the voice responds - so light
"Where are you?" I seek in cold bleak day
"I am" I hear the dream voice say.
"Why are you?" I cannot but persist
"I am" resounds in swirling mist
"Come sit and speak with me" I sigh
"I am" the only sad reply.

Where it comes from

The Madness of Poetry

This mass of jumble inside my head
Is there in the morning when I get up from my bed
It builds and develops as the day wears on
I really don’t know where I get it all from
Like a seed that is planted then watered it grows
Taking over my mind and thoughts in its flow
Urgent need guides the fingers across keys swiftly type
Releasing the pressure, respite from its hype
The birth of a poem gives relief at long last
But a new seed lies waiting new ideas have been cast

Thanks for your kind words - the muse visits very rarely, but I agree, Rod, when there is a poem in your head it just has to come out.

Have a magical Christmas everyone.

it says so much, so simply...thankyou

Golly - I'd forgotten about this poem - or posting it anyway. As I said last December - have a magical Christmas everyone. Do you know that poem is about the big "G" - somewhere in the Bible it says He refers to Himself as "I am". Can't remember where now. :)

Yes, that came to my mind...He said that was/is His Name to Moses, at the burning bush. :)

Well, yeah, I knew that din I? :crazy2:

But I remember now.  I guess it's about seeking and not finding - or thinking you are not finding what you are looking for.

Haven't had an inspiration since I wrote that in 2000 - so that must be telling me something hey? :)

A Contrivance

It's either there or not there
On this subject Kate, with you I share
We cant write a contrivance, a work of notoriety
It wouldn't do the job, it wouldnt be meaningful poetry
Those words will come, the ones that do the trick
For now, we will learn from our peers, their work is rather slick

 Well said Rod... Unlike some very talented people on this forum. I too am unable to bang them out (poems) at the drop of a hat. Although I'd love to have the nous to be able to do so.

Don't sell yourselves short, let me tell you what I've learnt

Before I wrote my first poem on this site I'd never written a poem in my life
Usually when I sit down to write a poem I don't have a clue what the finished article is going to be, usually I just start with an idea
Now the thing I've found is this, once I concentrate and start writing things seem to just pop up in my head from nowhere and one line follows on from another

So I'd say to anyone out there who's listening, give it a go, once you sit down and make a start I bet you'll be amazed at the result and anyway what's to lose?

Look at Postie - Jim - never wrote a poem until last week, now you can't drag him away from the keyboard

Go on, just pick a subject you know about or an event from your past and get writing ^-^

Thanks JerryD - but usually my poetry comes out like

The cat sat on the mat
it thought it saw a rat
:2funny: :2funny:

Only very occasionally do I have a brainstorm. Thanks for your encouragement - it means at lot from a master like you. :smitten:

Kate

Thank you for your encouragement. Your words have meant so much to me.
It is because of friends like you that we all stay with it, doing that, which to some
is a new found pleasure.
