EDWARD ROSE (BIRMINGHAM) LTD

Thanks Pedrocut. I cannot find any trace of Metal Reclamation Ltd in Birmingham. I remember visiting 99 Snow Hill and it was not a very nice place under the railway arches. Could be that it was shared premises as Edward started on a shoestring.

It could be, but I have doubts. Before Metal Reclamation in 1954 there was another firm there in 1952. Edward is there by 1957.

Other members may remember the arches, I recall there did not seem much room.

I started researching the company a few years ago and built-up quite a thick file. Unfortunately it was mislaid in the last house move. I am searching the loft at present! The file had information on Banro including an annual report so I am hopeful in finding it eventually. The lockdown has prompted this new research.

Update from yesterday. I did not find the file but found some other bits that my Mother had given me. The first is a company profile from Banro from which I enclose a company list. Unfortunately there is no date of when published. The second is an article from the Sunday Mercury of 1959.Edward Rose Banro Industries Group Profile.jpgEdward Rose Sunday Mercury 1959 2.jpgEdward Rose Sunday Mercury 1959 2.jpg

If you search (magnifying glass top right) for "photo insertions" there are instructions for reducing the size of an image.

Hi Bob, interesting to see Plated Strip Int. I used to work for them. They produced 'plated strip', huge rolls of thin strips of metal. I sometimes used to deliver on a HGV to Edward Rose factory. The CEO of plated strip (Mr Greenhough) was on the board of Edward Rose too and a friend of Edward - 1981-84.

Hi Peter Thanks for information on Plated Strip Int. All information is useful, particularly names and time frames in putting together the complicated history of the company.

Hi Bob, David Rose here son of Ted and Edna Rose, how are we related

Telford was called Decorative Trim Ltd. It’s Director was Neil Owen if memory serves me. They specialised in pressing aluminium sheet to make the cosmetic trims popular on cars in the 1970s. Sections was located in a building they purchased next door but one on the Pelsall Road towards Brownhills. In the main factory there were male piece workers getting £200 per week and some women over £100. I was perhaps getting £60 in a technical role. They worked hard though on very repetitive work. They got average earning on new jobs and would not sign off unless its rate gave them better than average which kept lifting the average hourly rate.
Mr Rose went from a V12 Jaguar saloon which he had serviced Castle Bromwich to a Roll Royce with ER3 number plate (it was said only the Queen could have 1 or 2) and a permanent chauffeur.
The was a strong association with William Bates electro players. Maybe through Banro group.
