CONCERTO
The nights raindrops broke into thousands of miniature tiaras,
Each royal adornment lasting but a second before blending
Themselves into one body of water running down the lamp
Lit sadness of the road.
A symphony of sound as each drop of rain played the tone
Of its chosen musical instrument. Some to take their place
With the Timpani and in irregular beat rattled upon upturned
Bucket, tin roof, discarded Kentucky Fried Chicken carton
As it floated along the gutter to some drain to be washed away
With the other entire jetsam.
A harmony of sound indistinguishable to those who are
Unfamiliar with the symphonic music of the rain. Only to the
Trained ear will the Concerto Of The Rain be appreciated.
Only to the trained ear will the tempo change as the conductor,
The Wind brought in from the north; blows the drops of rain
To a new beat, an Irish jig then at his whim to a symphony,
As the swish, swish, patter, patter and gurgling of the raindrops
And water combine to give to the ear a musical performance of
Pleasing sound.
Telephone lines, like the lines drawn on sheet music hum,
Adding to the rains satisfying sound, as patrons to the concert
Sit in their comfortable chairs or lie in their beds and listen
Enthralled to the Concerto Of The Rain.
