City Mental Hospital Lodge road

Does anyone have any information about this hospital? I have just found out that my Grandfather died there in October 1918.
Thank you

Thank you. I didn't realise that it was the Winson Green asylum in 1918. I will have to do some more research.

All Saints was the first CITY ASYLUM in the country, all were previously County or private Asylums, closed in 1997-8 the old main building retained and connected up with and used by HMP Prison; grounds and out buildings part of redevelopment site with a purpose built adult High Dependency Unit.
Prior to 1940s, Asylums tended to take people with a more definable mental illness, and needed more medical attention than those left in the infirmaries of the Workhouse like Highcroft.

A few of the residents used to come into The Don public house which was opposite what i would call their lodge entrance on Lodge Rd

I recall walking to HNR school up Lodge Road and the residents asking us through the railings to get them cigarettes from the shop opposite
