Charles Godfrey

spooner

master brummie
I wonder whether someone would be kind enough to look up the location of Charles Godfrey (or Godfray), Shoe Maker, probably in Handsworth, in 1862, or thereabouts, please?

I am interested in finding his address and the names of family members.:)

Hi Spooner,, could you put more details, Charles Godfrey approx Age?,
or year of birth, possible Parents or siblings, area born? etc

A quick look on 1861 shows a Charles Godfrey age 11 (b 1850 abt)
living on Livery Street, B,ham could be top end joins Handsworth via
Constitution Hill (Hockley Flyover way )
Head of house a Mr Clark & wife prob married before so Charles & a
sister living with her.
Census is RG9 piece 2152 Folio 79 page 12 if worth another look,
Need a bit more detail if you have any,,then search better Ok,
Cheers m8 John Y

Hi John,
I would imagine that Charles Godfrey would have been in his forties in 1862. All I know about him is that he was 'father of the bride' - (Jane Godfrey), on the marriage cert for my Gt gt grandfather. She was 20 at the time, so that's all I know about him.
They married at Handsworth Parish Church, so I presume that the families lived within the parish.
The surname is spelt Godfray on the marriage cert, but Godfrey on my gt grandfather's birth cert.
Spooner :)

Jane Godfrey

Hi Spooner,

There is a Jane Godfrey age 19 on 1861 census as a Lodger
RG9 piece 2152 Folio 5 page 4
living at 2 court/House 16 Water Street,
Municipal , Hampton, Parish of St Pauls (thats up next to Handsworth way
bordering Hockley)
If thats the right Jane, then she moved from Charles/family prior
to 1861 census,,, so need to locate Charles marriage & 1861 census,
Hope this assists, Cheers John Y

Hi John,
Thanks for looking, certainly Jane was the right age. Next time I get to the library, I'll see what I can find on Ancestry. I haven't found Charles's marriage on LDS yet, but I'll keep looking.
Regards
Spooner:)

Hi Spooner & nice one Brummie Nick

Spooner,, i beleive Nick has got your 1851 Godfrey,s so heres
the 1841 same family for you,,
1841 census HO107 piece 1198 book 11 Folio 34 page 17
They were living at Lower Lane Stourbridge (Logical move from Somerset)
Head; Charles Godfrey age 30, a Shoemaker wife Elizabeth age 30 ,
(Census round ages up/down/nearest 5)
William 9, Pamela 4 & Mary 3,,

I think this "maybe" Charles & Eliz marriage in 1839
Charles Godfrey married Elizabeth Hole, Jul/Aug/Sept Quarter
in Bridgewater ,Somerset volume 10 page 434,

Hope this fits in with your cousins info,,
Cheers & best regards John Y
