Welcome sifta:)

Have you tried the Search box at the top of the page, there is a lot to sort through but it will be worth it was that the one with the low balcony?

Hi, Postie, Alf and Sifta,

In my ignorance I am not really sure if I remember the castle cinema. It looks to me as if it was chester road , near to timberley lane, junction bradford road. I have heard of it , when exactly did it get demolished??

Shady

It closed in 1962 and was demoished just after. The picture is taken from the car park of the Bradford Arms

Thanks Postie,

I may not of remembered it at the time, but from what you have written would that make it as now the Tesco Store and car park Timberley Lane. Sad to think that there was a cinema as local as that and now gone.

Shady

Postie what was the The Timberley facing the Castle Cinema?:)

Was that another pub

Not sure Alf it could have been the coach and horses.
Shady, it wasn't by where Tescos is, it was further down the Chester Rd towards City, poss opposite where County Garages was.

many thanks to you all for your replies ..at least i have an idea of what the cinema looks like and all your comments have been a great help ..:handshake:

Postie

It seems that good photos of The Castle Cinema are in short supply. Here is another not so good one.

Shady was right. Tescos is now occupying the site of the Castle cinema, the picture was taken from what is now Bradford Arms car park and the Timberley pub was further on up the road on the left as you are looking at it on the picture.

Terry

P.S. I had a book called I think 'Around Castle Bromwich' but blowed if I can find it, I am sure there was a picture of the Castle in there. I'll keep looking though.

I seem to remember the Castle was opposite the Kwiksnax Cafe. When I worked on the old Midland Red 175 route from Shirley Station we used to pick up a can of tea to take up to the Hall Road terminus.

hi all
I remember the castle cinema weoley castle, known affectionately as the, WOB or the flea pit, cannot remember wether it was in barnes hill or shenley fields road, closed in the late 50's or early 60's. I remember sneaking in to watch DRACULA,with chris lee, and being frightened to walk home alone.

Alf, The Timberley was up by the traffic lights in Castle Brom. The Coach and Horses where I had my wedding reception in 68, is just before the County Garages (that was). Then The Bradford is nearly opposite Tesco where the Castle cinema was.

I had a Saturday job in the late 50s working for scibbins bakery I must of been 14 years old still at school we always stopped at the Kwicksnax cafe seem to be a popular place
for milk and bread delivery vans co-op, Harveys, and scibbins

I see most of the pictures have gone. I think these are the only ones I have. The first one is where it is being demolished, early 60's.

No, all the pictures are of the Castle cinema, Castle Bromwich. Post #1 starts off by asking for pictures of the castle bromwich one, also see post #20.

Wasn’t it a Wimpy bar at one time? I seem to remember having a burger there once. That was before McDonalds appeared over here.
