This is near what is now 'Spaghetti Junction' looking towards city and rear of, and parallel to, Lichfield RdCanal Aston.jpg

Is this the view at the top of the lock which would be located between Portland St and Catherine St, had they both continued over the canal?

That's it Curly, all changed now though, no longer 'paintable', spent many happy hours in the '80's walking along the tow path with sketch book alone or with Society friends in the direction of Dartmouth Street and beyond. Happy days. Eric

A section of the map from around 1945.

In 1945 there is on the left side... the Corporation Yard, Aston Paper Mills, Exchange Tube Works and on to Rocky Lane. On the right hand side Eagle Range and Grate Works and Climax Tube Works. I wonder if anyone remembers these names?

Yes, very dull and uninviting, been up there on my boat many a time in the 90s, though it has to be said many places on the BCN now tidied up and rejuvenated often as a requirement of the granting of planning permissions.
