There is a John Thomas Roper registered Dudley, Sep qtr 1904 which matches the death Lyn has found.

Is it certain that he was born in Wolverhampton?

just beat me to it MWS..just noticed the dudley birth..as you say it matches up with the death in wolverhampton in 1972..as dudley is so close to wolverhampton i would say they are one and the same...

There is no John Roper of the right age in the Dudley district in the 1911 but there is a Thomas Roper b1905 in the Coseley parish of Dudley. Son of William & Mary (nee Wall).

That is the right marriage .The Thomas in Coseley makes sense he was always known as Tom his first born girl was called Mary and first son William..When he died he was living in Bilston,i think that comes under Wolverhampton .
Thankyou everyone for your help really grateful
