Hi
Family legend has it that John Arthur James CALLOW 1923-1989 was a boxer in Birmingham. Would anyone have any information on him or suggest where I might find any information about him please.
Kind regards
Alison :)

if he was a boxer and it was reported in the newspapers you could try the british newspaper archives...there is a small subscription...

I have checked history of boxers with Surname 'C' and the only Callow is a Tom Callow of Tipton who fought in the 30s.

A couple of clippings that mention Tom Callow from 1928. This Tom Callow would have to have a much earlier birth year to the one given if he was boxing in 1928. (A relation perhaps ?). These are from the British Newspaper Archives. There are several mentions of Tom in the context of matches fought, contestants etc. Viv.93A49490-E480-4A1D-9753-FC3C46E4B9A0.jpeg525F3C29-4FC8-45AC-A1FF-CE8E44FDCA5E.jpeg

This is no use at present, due to dates covered, but, as there seem to be a number of people interested in boxing ancestors, the Newspaper archive have just added issues of "Boxing" 1909-1912 to their archive. Presumably they will later add other years , which may give you more information
