Does anyone remember "Broadspeed" on the Stratford Rd in Sparkhill? They produced mini's that looked like minature Aston Martins with the fish tale, I believe they started with a mini van.Was it started by Ralph Broad? Is it still in business, I know that it left Birmingham several years ago, Has anyone got any pics?

Great info Mike. Broad's moved to Southam Warwickshire but not sure how long they continued in conversions.

It's with deep regret that I see in the Birmingham Mail tonight that Ralph Broad has died aged 84.I never met the man but I always admired him. R.I.P Ralph...........

My brother, Steve Phillips worked for Boadspeed. I think it would have been about 1974.

Hi.
Remember well the Broad brothers in Sparkhill/Camp Hill, under the railway arches just the other side from Camp Hill Grammar. Used to buy engine parts for our Mini which we used to rally.
I always thought their claim to fame in the 60's was their 105E's winning the British Saloon Car Championship in 1966 with John Fitzpatrick. 125 BHP from a 997cc engine IN 1966! Used to see off the big guns with 3X the engine capacity.

Going off thread a little but a good friend of mine raced a 105e hot rod at Hednesford hills, spent an absolute fortune having a 1500 engine bored out to 1600 and rebuilt by Cosworth, left everything else standing but couldn't stop it as he kept the standard drum brakes.

Hi Graham, would your brother happen to know of anyone that could authenticate a broadspeed built car?
Kind regards Scott.

Welcome Scott House. Hopefully someone here will be able to help you. Meanwhile do you have a photo of the vehicle and any information you could share ? We have many car enthusiasts who are members, I’m sure they’d be interested.

Viv.

Hi Viv,no pictures yet because I’m not the owner.
It’s for sale but wanted to find out as much as I could before committing to buying it.
I’ve had no luck with owners clubs, although to their credit they’ve tried!!
It’s a white Ghia saloon.

Hi,
I’m trying to authenticate a Broadspeed built Ford Granada, can anyone on here help?
Kind regards Scott.

If you would like o go over to my racing page on facebook. GERRY TAYLOR SPECIAL SALOON RACING 1960's & 1970's. Then we have specialists on board, they can answer anything about Ralph and his company. If you do wish to join, then mention me and the history site, and I will let you in. Incidently, I raced the SWISH Anglia, and held several lap records. The engine was an MAE Cosworth, and my mechanic was Phil Marks, ex- Broadspeed.
