Norman Power, the vicar at St Johns church, wrote a book in 1965 called The Forgotten People: A Challenge to a Caring Community - 'Canon Norman S. Power was vicar of Ladywood, a working-class district of Birmingham. His book, The Forgotten People, has been born out of his vivid experiences. It describes the impact of slum-clearance on a well-knit community. It shows the effect of this impact on old people, on unwanted children, on problem families, on teenagers and local schools. This book is a challenge to all who are concerned with the wide-spread disruption of community".
