  • HI folks the server that hosts the site completely died including the Hdd's and backups.
    Luckily i create an offsite backup once a week! this has now been restored so we have lost a few days posts.
    im still fixing things at the moment so bear with me and im still working on all images 90% are fine the others im working on now

Can anyone please help me find any information on Edward (Teddy) Blackwell c1850?

It is believed that Teddy was a bare knuckle fighter or boxer? Regards Keith :)

there is an edward blackwell born and lived bham on the censuses

he was born abt 1855 and his occ. was stamper and in later years an engine driver. his parents were richard and ann blackwell.
he married an american woman named laura.

if you think this is the one i will post the censuses for you. havent found one with occ. boxer etc.

laura e blackwell 1926 jan-mar bham north. 6d 429 (b.abt 1857 age 69)

Can any one enlighten me to how I can find out Laura's entry date to GB and which part of the USA tshe came from? Her fathers name was Robert Turner born about 1817 (don't know if he was born in USA or England - occupation was a hotel keeper -this could have been in the USA).

1871 age 14 at school in Harborne born NY.

There is a marriage of an Edward Blackwell in 1877 birmingham and on the same index is Jane E Turner ,wonder if it mistranscribed.
June 1877 ref 6d 147.

there is a marriage of robert turner that could be to patience taylor in 1854 oct-dec kingsnorton 6c 696

on 1851 census

robert turner is aged 45 b. hinkley leic. with wife elizabeth 54 and daughters eliza 25 and mary 23 living bham.

also 1851 patience taylor is living in great charles st. bham aged 32 unmarried and a milliner.

My father Harry Blackwell spoke of a bare knuckle fighter in the family but he did not know any details, we do have an Edward Blackwell in our family tree: 1971 census age 16 occupation "stamper"

would like to hear of any more info. concerning him, or the my Blackwell family in Birmingham from 1841 to 1966. thank you
