Black and White table cloth

humbleseeker

knowlegable brummie
Does anyone else remember that a black and white table cloth meant newspaper ??? I lived in Aston as a kid and met other later in life who knew exactly what I meant.

No. I never saw newspaper used as a table cloth/covering but I remember many well scrubbed deal (pine) table tops. Maybe newspaper was a city thing rather than a rural one?
