Gentlemen we are going of topic here the thread was about a book that Alan had read about punishment in 1800-1900.
As you say we all have an opinion on todays crimes and their punishment but this was not what the thread was about.

Sounds a good read Alan, I will have to look out for a copy. Alberta.

I have just bought this book from Amazon for £3.50 plus £2 postage,very interesting with some very good street photos,well worth seeking out a copy.Amazon have quite a few, I went for the cheapest and it's almost mint condition.
