Birmingham & Midland Hospital for the Blind

Hi

My mum was a State Registered Nurse in the 1940s. She nursed at the Dunlop factory which was where she met my dad. I knew she had worked on specialised eye care and I recently discovered a broach which appears to be from her nursing days. the wording on it is ”Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital Founded 1823”.

Mum is in a nursing home. She is 95 now and I’d like to know a little more about where she worked but as she has dementia, she’s unable to remember. Her sister, my aunt, says the the hospital was in Newhall Street. Can anyone give me any information on this hospital?

A good start for the history of the hospital can be seen here...
