Birmingham in Science fiction in the 19th century

Thanks Mike. I’ve read a couple of pre-World War 1 books supposing a German attack upon Britain, written during the last decade of the 19thC and the early part of 20thC. This, however, is the first I’ve heard of this work - well done you, Mike! Who is the author?

I wonder if this particular book was inspired by the Franco-German War of ten years earlier, and the reunification of Germany in 1871, under Otto Von Bismarck? Probably so, as it would be another eight years before Kaiser Wilhelm came to the throne; subsequently inspiring the notion of German invasion.
