I have been loaned an amazing collection of photo's of buildings during demolition in Birmingham. The gentleman who loaned them to me is not to well so couldn't tell me much about them. I have told him I will scan them and they will be saved forever. I am hopefully going to visit him soon when he is up to a visit so he can explain more about the photo's, where they were taken dates etc. This one clearly shows Webley and Scott before they moved to West Bromwich.

Your photo with the gasometer's I would think was taken from the Rupert St - Cromwell St Nechells area. The one with the lorry tipper body up must have been taken from the Newton St - James Watt St area of the City because that's the Lewis's building in the background.

Thanks for posting these excellent photos Wendy. It's sad to see the demolitions especially the Josiah Mason's Orphange which many of us remember.

Thank you Wendy for posting the pictures of Sir Josiah Mason's orphanage.

Although I have but a very few happy memories of my time there, it is still very sad to see the demolition pictures.

Looking back from a 62year span it is sad to see the mighty building gone forever.

Thanks again Wendy

Hi Wendy and all, I think the above photo was taken from Scholfield street looking across to Rupert street, the old house that you see in the picture is facing on to Cromwell street as for the tower in the background to the right hand side of the photo is the old railway goods yard on Rupert street and Avenue road corner. as for the chimney stack in the photo I can not recall seeing myself when I lived in Nechells maybe member Mickjee can come up with a street plan or a map of the area or the Kelly's Directory? be interesting to know.

Wendy have a look at this photo I am posting on it is of Cromwell street being Demolish taken 1956 you can make out the chimney stack and the premises that is being demolish in your photo, it is on the right hand side of the picture.

Hi Dave this Photo has always bothered me it must be looking towards Rocky Lane behind the trees are what I think are the Cooling Towers Of Nechells Power Station and the Building in the right corner would be Newton Oils on Thimble Mill Lane (I think ) not sure its the same chimney though it seems to far away but I agree with your location of Wendys Photo I would say the Photographer was standing with his back to the old Bloomsbury St polive Station.Dek

Here is a medium scale map of the gas works-schofiled rd area c 1951. hope it satisfies. cannot see any obvious chimney. but it would not have been marked if it was part of a building

I don't know where these were taken I can only pick out The Scala in some pictures.
