BHA399C D9 was in Service with Midland Red in 1981 on the X92 route Ludlow to Birmingham, the footage show the bus before it was preserved and after the Midland Red Apprentices had worked on the bus, 5399 ran on Sunday,s from Ludlow To Birmingham, there are a number of things to look for as the bus comes out of the Bull Ring Bus Station you can see the the old Rag Alley, also to be seen is a very busy conductor giving out tickets (does anyone know his name as well as the driver please) sadly what you do not see is one of the passengers giving the driver an ice cream at Bewdley the other thing to see is the driver with the emergency window open (tut tut )

As far as I am aware the bus only ran in 1981 possibly in 1982 as well (unconfirmed) and was the preserved

Great video never drove 5399 but drove a lot of other D9s in and out of the bus station.

Nothing wrong with having the emergency window open whilst driving - I and a lot of others did so during hot summer days. There was a spring loaded catch to hold it open and stop it from swinging to and fro.

At least with a half cab you didn't get some of the dreadful smells from the bus interior invading your space whenever you opened the side window as we did on the Bristol VRs.
