BBC Midlands Home Service - Alf Waterhouse, angler

Peter Walker

gone but not forgotten
Anyone remember the Friday evening slot after the local news on a Friday night, when Alf Waterhouse spoke for a minute or two in his lovely Black Country accent on the week-end's prospects for anglers? Strictly speaking, I am a Brummie but, having been born in Villa Road, which was once in Handsworth, Staffs, I love the Black Country and its accents - there were so many of them.
I've never been into angling, but I was often struck by Alf's odd remarks not just on fishing. A bit like John Arlott on cricket, or Phil Drabble, closer to home.
I would love to hear Alf's voice again.
Peter
