I saw Barry Humphries in Birmingham around the 1980's - possibly at the Town Hall. Many gladioli were thrown to an adoring crowd. Was single handedly responsible for the popularity of the gladioli and the possum. Was also very funny and a style icon.

I have an old Private Eye collection from the 60s with a few of the old Barry McKenzie strips in and managed to turn up the films on the internet a while back. I think I'd seen both at the cinema back in the 70s. Humphries is credited as writer on all of this stuff and it seems that McKenzie's Aunt Edna was something that came up somewhere between the two. For the film Humphries is playing a few parts in each Sir Les, Aunt Edna an art critic, a psychiatrist.... it seems he cut down his range at some point sticking to the most popular.
