I've recently found this photograph of Allesley St and Bracebridge St at their junction with Aston Road. The photograph was taken from Dartmouth St. The decorating shop JC Bell & Co Ltd can be seen on the left with The White Hart pub on the right. I've no idea when the picture was taken but looking at the cars I'd say it was around the 1920s or 30s.

Yes, it’s the 3 storey house, right hand side of the entry.

I thought so, the alley led to two laundry sheds and two small gardens which were for the back 2 houses not for us, my mum had a row with the house behind as he shouted at us for going in his garden. 3 kids and no garden was tough.

Hi donnaexpat, my husband lived in No. 38 with his Nan, Mom & Dad until about 1954 when they moved to Bordesley Green.

hi, it wasn't the best life experience, we must have gone there after the people who took over from your hubby, I was about 10 I reckon as I was left in charge of my siblings who were younger than me and I was born in 1954.

It never ceases to amaze me the information now available. Thanks to astonbrook-through-astonmanor I have been able to identify exactly where (and why) an old family photo was taken. This family photo of my mum, elder brother and me was taken in Rocky Lane (I wish we had been able to afford a decent camera), it was taken around 1956 and it would have been our weekly Sunday visit to see my grandparents in Chattaway Street, Nechells.
