Aston, Lozells & Witton Photos Reposted thanks to Ray Griffiths...

thanks for photos of Aston Witton etc they brought back so many memories of when I was a nipper.
I remember Mom pushing Grandad in his wheelchair, up the hill at Aston Cross while he shouted at me to pedel harder on my tricycle to get up it. I was about four.
So many lovely memories of times gone by and the people in them.

Does anyone have any photographs of Holland Road Aston? I remember visiting the road in the late 60s. My Grandmother was brought up there in the 1920s. Thanks

My interest in the stretch of Park Road near the junction with Victoria Road stems from my being born above the sweet shop at 107. So that’s why I’m keen to source any photos as this section of street no longer exists.

You could look at:

www.leroux.co.uk/aston

There are images around there but none of the specific area you are interested in. The website takes a while to load all of the images (over 400 covering the Aston area).

Not to the standard of the other pictures here but I thought it worth recording; 184 Church Lane, Aston, with Dents Garage to the right. Taken 30th July 1967.
No.'s 186 & 188 Church Lane were destroyed in a bombing raid on 9th April 1941, Dents garage being built on the site post war. My Grandparents lived in this house from around 1935 until 1967, when Birmingham City Council succeeded where the Luftwaffe failed, and the house was demolished to make way for the Aston Expressway. They were treated very badly by Council officials at Bush House (Broad Street) in that they were told that they were being moved to Norris Road in Witton and that they had no say in the matter. I have little doubt that others suffered similarly.

My aunt, uncle and cousin Agnes, Bill and Agnes Forknal lived on Church Lane , they were there in 1962 when I left. Question: ( might not be the right place) How does it work with council houses? I understand the demolition piece but there is no choice as to where you are going? Who pays for the move and the new(next house) and any changes/improvements?
Thank you….
