Not sure where to put this!
I'm trying to find information about a road accident involving an Ansells lorry in 1964 - possibly April/May time.
Thomas Betley was hit by a lorry while crossing the Lichfield Road- apparently it was on the news at the time.
I have searched the internet but can't find anything. But I know from past experience some of you wonderful people know exactly where to look!;)
Any information gratefully received.

The best I can suggest is the Central Library, they have the Evening Mail on microfiche that you can look through.

Hi Lloyd,
sorry for the delay in replying.
Thanks for the suggestion - i'll have to try and get to the library at some point.

yes indeed mand
and if you can get there also check the sunday mercury
for the big great grey shire horse that stopped at the trafic lights
right out side the main brewery gate where the horse would stop before
turning into the brewery premises as they used to turn into the brewery
it would go up a slope and turn along side an un , and loading bay
where the driver would unload his delivery
on this particular day i think it was a saturday the driver of the horse and cart
whom was partners for many years got to the gate
when his driver had a heart attack and died on the cart right out side the
brewery gates , the horse new the routine and stopped on red
at the gate lights as he new it meant stopp for years for him
and when it went green in he trotted with his dead driver
and thats when they discovered the driver
this was before the motor lorrys they had
i think this would have been around the year of 1952--3
and it was most definatly the sunday mecury the day after from the saturday
this incident happenend
best wishes astonian ;;;;;

Thanks for that story Astonian, it made me smile thinking off the horse finding his way through the red lights.
Not sure when i will get into Brum, but will try and remember to look that up too.
Take care
