Today I had to put my 15 year old dog Sam to sleep whom I had for over 13 years, I feel so sad and the house seems so empty, apart from my 16 year old cat Sooty. Eric Sam sleeping.jpgSam sleeping.jpg

Hard to bear Eric. We have had to overcome this many times over the years, most recently just over a year ago. Our sincere thoughts are with you.

eric, only ones who have gone through such grief knows what your going through, we had to put to sleep our daschund Fritz to sleep last august and it was a terrible day, he was put out of his pain and that did help a little, just remember all the good times you had with Sam memories are a healer god bless...Brenda

Eric
i'm sorry to hear about sam. I know how much a loyal dog can mean, and it is so diificult when something like this happens

Thank you all for sympathetic messages. It was only 16 months yesterday that I also lost my other dog AnnaMy dogs Sam and Anna.JPGEric

Eric, I am so sorry you have had to say goodbye to your lovely dog Sam. I find it heartbreaking to lose pets so I understand how upset you must be. 15 is a good age for a dog - it shows what a happy life Sam had with you.
If I remember right Sam was in one of your paintings - it was one of my favourites - walking along a path in woods I think.
Thinking of you at this sad time x

That's the one Eric. I think it's lovely - the colours, the reflections in the puddles, the sun coming through the trees and of course Sam enjoying a walk. A lovely painting and happy memories for you Eric x

Eric, it is so sad to hear this, and there is little another person can do to help. That being said...the picture says it all. The walks...what's not to like for a dog. You gave him a great life. Take care.
Dennis

Just read your thread Eric, I am very sorry for the loss of your dear friend, our pets really are like family to most of us. Regards, Paul Stacey.

Eric I am so sorry about the sad loss of Sam. What wonderful lives your Anna and Sam had thanks to yourself. Take care. Jean.:strawberry:

Eric so so sorry you have had to say goodbye to Sam I'm sure he was a
treasured friend. The memories you had with him will stay with you forever xx

Hi Eric, I am really ad to hear about your loss today. I have had a dog for the last eight years, and now know how much a loved pet can bring to your life, they fill the home with their personality's. I hope that you will draw strength from the knowledge that your pet was well loved, and enjoyed what you gave to it, as much as what you dog gave back.

Terrible news

The quicker you can get another one call it the same name a things will get a little brighter.
Sad day

Feel for you Eric. We lost our dog 2 years ago. We still talk about her very, very fondly and laugh at her many antics. She was a big part of our family. I'd go along with Mike Jenks' advice and get another pal very soon. Viv.

Will probably obtain another rescue dog, but not before my holiday (30th May-6th June), I would like a smaller dog and at least 6 years old as I am no chicken myself (84 in June). Cannot believe all the support from Forum members. Very much appreciated. Will still be at meet next Saturday. Thank you all. By the way Sam wad named after a 21 year old cat we had (1979-2000) Eric

That's good Eric. You'll have so much fun getting to know each other. Something to look forward to. For whatever reason a rescue dog has been given up, it's heartwarming to know that you'll be able to give him/her a happy home. And of course you've had lots of canine experience too! Viv.

Eric, our dog Rupi is also getting on a bit. In the Avatar picture he is only 1 year old. Bit of a change now 10 years later. Pugs are small dogs but Rupi is a struggle to walk with; especially when he meets other dogs. Not that he is a biting dog, just overly rumbuctious. I miss a nice walking dog and it becomes more of a struggle as I age. Anyway, we thought that an older shelter dog might be the way to go down the road, also (hopefully a long way down) and I thought that a few trial walks might be in order to be sure of compatibility. Hmm...if I can make it. Just a thought. Dennis

Eric, so sorry to hear of the loss of your companion Sam, it is always very sad to lose a much loved pet, as others have said try to remember the love and happy times you shared.
