hi folks..this new book has just gone on sale...the writers are corinne brazier and steve rice....steve rice (steveR) is a member of this forum and also vice chair of the police museum..at the moment steve is making plans to secure a new venue for the police museum...the book is non profit making and after the cost of printing is is taken out of sales anything over and above will be going to charities for domestic violence..

The book covers the beginning of the women in Police starting with Rebecca Lipscombe and Evelyn Miles who were the first Police Women starting in 1917. Both were former lock up matrons in the building you visited recently. There are facts about War World 1 and the movement of Soldier and those Policemen that left the force to serve. It then moves through the years and a large section around World War II. There are pictures of Steelhouse lane, Newton Street and inside the courtyard of Digbeth. It also covers the Cadets and lists all of the female firsts for departments such s firearms, mounted, helicopter, diving section etc. It has 170 tightly packed pictures and text.
