In post 5 I assume that the 'public shelter' in one of the photos would be a former air raid shelter. I also note another Wrensons shop. There is also a pic of the island area in Acocks Green showing tramway overhead. This, as far as I know, was the terminus of the 44 tram route (it became 44 bus route in 1937), although the caption suggests 1950.

In 2009 you would have passed what was left of the Swan shopping centre.

It never pays dividends to pay much attention to any information tagged to old photos because it is frequently wrong. As long as we use it for a rough guidance only then that is all we can ask.

Post 4 showing 'Harolds' brings back childhood memories. My Dad (Bill Fullard) worked for Harold. In 1960 just after my birth, Dad opened Hatchford Garage at the top of the yard, through the entrance in the picture. He ran the business until about 1996 when he retired. I have fond memories of the garage, Harold and Eric who worked with him, always called me 'blood nut' (I was a fully paid up copper top see?)

what year was the swimming baths photo taken? thanks

I have no real date for the photo, but as Stechford pool opened in 1962 and I believe the lido was lost in the refurbishment of 1991 it must date from between those two dates. As it still look pretty new in the photo I would assume it was taken sometime in the 60's.

I didn't know that there had been an outdoor pool at Stechford. There's something fascinating about lidos, I don't know why.

Very nostalgic photos, thanks.

Are there any photos of the Park at all - Manor Road Recreation Ground. The swimming pool was built on the lower level and the homes on the sandpits and football pitches. Just wondered

Phil, thanks for this collection, was "my patch" for nigh on forty years, lots of memories some good, some sad.
