26 Snowhill

Greetings one and all,
I am new to this group and am looking for assistance in identifying the above address which appears in the 1851 census where I found an ancestor of my wife, named Sarah Dobbins. This is on sheet GBC-1851-4299114-00377. The house number/head of, is on the previous sheet.
Any help would be really good. A picture would be great but I am expecting too much but an accurate location would more than do. I have a couple of old maps but no house numbers.
As I live in Adelaide South Australia, it is rather hard actually visiting given the present pandemic and check out the local libraries but did visit Pershore Street, St Lukes back in 2017 where she was living at their wedding to William Fretwell in 1854.
Thanking you in advance!

The 1949 PO directory lists John Morris , chemist and druggist at no 26, while the 18555 one lists Lewis Hayman, tobacconist. the numberuing did not alter over time, and no 26 ia marked in red on the c1889 map below

In July 1850 the premises (retail shop and accommodation) was let and the former chemist’s stock was being auctioned in September that year. So presumably the new occupants weren’t chemists. Viv.

Much earlier occupant (1829) it was a chemist.

Nearly 100 years later it was a cycle agents shop.

thanks mike so no 26 is shown as a ruin and had gone by 1955 this is the photo i have showing deans at no 1 and as i note the numbering went up in ones so no 26 would only have been a little way down from deans...photo dated 1959 and is one of my favourites

One & All, I am astounded at your responses and appreciate them all. It will take me a little time to digest them and paint my picture (in my mind!). I could not have asked for more and will respond further tomorrow. I have last year conversed with a lady in the East of London FHS and she too was extremely helpful.
Forever a pom even after 38 years here. Cheers, Bikemart
