I quote : " One of the most accomplished riders of his generation, Valverde served a suspension in 2010 and 2011 after a bag of his blood, containing EPO, was DNA matched by Italian anti-doping officials who had taken a blood sample at the 2008 Tour de France. Valverde admitted nothing. He...

    Barr Street, Hockley

The factory was in Barr Street but, although this former shop was next to the works, it had an address of 214 Wells Street and faced the Woodman. I am pleased to report that it was once a cycle shop. During WW2 it was run by Harold Richards.

    Tour de France 2020 - 107th. year

One of the sad things about Covid-19 is that fans cannot access the riders like they used to. Perhaps this will never happen again. This photograph was captured when I was talking to Geraint Thomas in the year that he won the Tour de France ....

    Tour de France 2020 - 107th. year

The reason that they won the stage was because the team leader packed it in and the rest now have a free rein - hence Luke Rowe was chasing a win in yesterday's stage. If Bernal was still in the race they would all be told to pack it in and stick with team orders. Conversely, the Sunweb team are...

    Colorado School

I get some bizarre messages sometimes but I have been asked if there was a school known as Colorado in the 19th century. Anybody heard of such a thing. Sounds a little unlikely to me but I thought I would ask...

Much, much more than a 1000th of a second - same goes for flapping clothing. Got to be aero!! However, in response to your main point, my winter bikes have mudguards and if anybody turns up without them on a club run they are sent to the back where they won't splash everybody else.

    Tour de France 2020 - 107th. year

I thought he was born in Birmingham but brought up as an 0121-er in Tamworth. For those disappointed in the lack of British entries do not despair as there are a few new riders in the pipeline. Of course, there was always going to be a lull as the Manchester academy riders got older. However...

    In the Garden 2020

Update on my pigeon nest .... the adults do not seem to mind being observed. I cannot believe that they built a nest right next to the window. Talk about grandstand view, I can see right inside the nest! I have just taken this photograph and, as you can see, a squab is looking at me with some...

    In the Garden 2020

A while back I lifted my drain cover just to check it was OK inside and no damage of blockages. There was a rat who ran down the pipe into the sewer. They are all about but we just don't like to think about them.

    In the Garden 2020

Autumn is happening early so I spent yesterday making a frog parlour so that one or two may choose to recce a winter hostel. I am sure there are plenty of ways to make a safe place for them. Indeed, I have two log piles in the garden for them to nestle into. In this experiment I bought a roll of...
