More wonderful pictures! Of interest #117 the person on the bike. When I was growing up in the late 40’s and 50’s we were not allowed to ride two wheelers.

Back the 1950s early 60s I had an Aunt who lived a few doors down from the main gate Think it was Thornhill Road. When we went to visit in the 50s my mother would be with my aunt and I was allowed to play in the park

Thanks for the photos of Handsworth Park Oisin. I have not been there for probably 40 years but it reminds me when I used to ride my bike through there early in the morning to the Grove Lane entrance on my way to Handsworth Grammar. Could not ride back home through there as it wasn't allowed.

Struggled to work out which set of gates this is on Holly Road. Not only are there several sets of gates, there are none with double pillars. I expect one of the pillars on each side has been removed. Several pillars look like they’ve probably been completely replaced as do the low level walls. Only one set appear to have the original cap on top. Viv,

Judging by the fall of the land and clear views of the internal roads surely it has to be Thornhill Road entrance? The pillars have probably all been completely taken down and the special stonework recovered and put into new builds.

we took a load of school desks and benches there for the bonfire, we had to clear a school in solihull ready for modern desks. glad to say a lot was taken away by locals before they got burnt.

1971. Handsworth park Bonfire:grinning:...do they still have bonfires in bham parks or has H&S stopped itView attachment 169029
I lived just up the road in Antrobus Road. I remember the bonfires though would have only been three when this pic was taken so could well have been there! They stopped the bonfires after a few years and that particular piece of ground became a cricket pitch.
