Broke my big toe 6 weeks ago tripping over.Have been going twice a week to the surgery to have it dressed because of a small cut,( having Diabetes didn't want complications) in between the 1-2 toes.Went to a foot Podiatry on Mon said everything was fine but as a precaution she asked me if I was allergic to Iodine.I said I don't think so ,So she put a small Iodine plaster on it.After all these years of modern medicine they still use IODINE

Thank goodness that elements, like silver, and simple compounds, like common salt and iodine, still work against bacteria!
true. iodine reminds me of school clinic... not seen it for years.
odine is a highly effective topical antimicrobial that has been used clinically in the treatment of wounds for more than 170 years. It has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity with efficacy against bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses and can be used to treat both acute and chronic wounds1.

My wife had iodine treatment for an over active thyroid 5 days ago, so she is slightly radioactive. We have to sleep in seperate beds for 2 weeks & when out shopping has to stay at least 1metre from everyone, especially children. Apart from that there seem to be no nasty side effects.

does she glow in the dark smudge?

A few years ago I was barmy enough to seriously whack my thumb, resulting in a double fracture and multiple lacerations. To Good Hope A&E I went, and after taking a good look at it, the nurse poured out a beaker full of iodine solution, caught hold of my hand, and advised that 'this may sting a bit'. Sting!?! I nearly went through the ceiling! And she held it in the iodine until I was begging her to remove it - which she eventually did. "Nothing better than iodine to clean a wound", she trilled. Must have worked, because I had no infection. But I still remember that pain like it was this morning.....

You could be right amigo. I passed her bedroom last night & i could swear there was an eerie green glow coming from under the door. They don`t have female hulks do they? Not much chance of being at an airport, she`s got so many problems nobody would insure her!!

I was in Queensland on holiday and cut my foot on coral. Did not use the vinegar that was left for accidents such as this and five days later on a small island off the coast, it was hurting and bleeding and I had to seek help at the first aid hut. A beautiful young bikini clad girl looked at my foot, tutted and got a bottle took the top off turned my foot over and just before she did anything I asked will it hurt , she replied I hope so its Iodine, then she poured it into the wound. Once they got me down from the palm tree I was under....took three weeks to heal. But I have just had an even bigger surprise, three weeks ago I had a carcinoma removed from my wrist and every two days have to go to the surgery to have it dressed. They clean it with saline solution which is kept on plastic packets like the milk in Morrisons. I commented on it and they adVIsed that now they would often use just plain water.

Hi Smudger, my hairdresser Heather had thyroid problems a while back and had to have a special treatment and was radioactive for 2 weeks after the treatment and she stayed at her brothers house for 2 weeks as she couldn't be around her kids. She is all good now.

My husband had a lump on his neck and went to a specialist then had the lump drained, it was because he had a problem with his thyroid and was low in iodine so he had to use iodised salt in his diet and eat more fish, he is fine now and has never had any more trouble . Iodine is important in our diet too.

last night i looked on google about iodine, and it come up with a woman who was poison`d by iodine. 131 a csi movie..... nasty stuff. not the stuff we use.

there are a lot of different iodines .Iodine is important in medicine, in both radioactive and non-radioactive forms. Iodide and thyroxin, which contains iodine, are used inside the body. A solution containing potassium iodide (KI) and iodine in alcohol is used to disinfect external wounds. Elemental iodine is also used as a disinfectant.
